Fort Welikit Family Campground, & RV Park are a new addition to the Customer SD area. The 100 sites have something for everyone. While it may not have the name brand amenities like a nearby Sturgis RV park, it does have a lot of the features you'd expect at a stately campground. Its excellent location is a major plus. This is the ideal place to stay if you want to visit the Black Hills.
On the scenic Norbeck Highway, you will find Fort Welikit Family Campground/RV Park. This area is full of great attractions and is a popular destination for those who travel to the area for skiing, fishing, golfing, and other outdoor activities. Hot Springs is home of the Mammoth Site. Here you will find interesting information regarding the Pleistocene Period. Hot Springs has the Wind Cave which offers tours.
A small playground and dog park are also available at the campground. You can also play grass volleyball on the campground. The campground has an overhead shelter as well, which is a nice addition. An overhead shower house is also available.
There are many amenities at the campground, including a dog park and laundry facilities. You can also take advantage of the campground's Wi-Fi service, which is free. While the Wi Fi isn't great, it's enough to keep you online while on the road. It may not work with all channels.
It's close to several of the best attractions in the area such as Crazy Horse, Badger Clark historical site, Jewel Cave, or Badger Clark cave. Additionally, this campground is within a mile of the main street in Custer, making it a quick trip to see the sights. The Crazy Horse bus departs from the park every 30 minutes, so if you don't feel like driving, you can take a ride on it.
Fort Welikit Family Campground received a South Dakota Department of Tourism "Great Service Star". The award is meant to recognize campgrounds that offer outstanding service and a range of amenities. These include a fully fenced dog park and a picnic table. It's also a great place to go for hiking or biking.
The park hosts the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the summer. This campground is the perfect place to stay if you are in the area for Sturgis Rally. You can also take a hike or play on the links at Black Bear Golf Course, even if your preference is not to ride a big bike. You might be tempted to book your spot at the camp during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
