Exped Mats for Sleeping

best camping chair for bad back

Exped is known for their backpacking tents but they also make a very good line of sleeping mats. Some are a little heavier than others and some are thinner but they all offer great insulation and are very comfortable to sleep on.

AMOK SLEEVING PADDLE

The Amok is a lightweight sleeping pad that packs down into a small package and weighs only 17.4 oz. The Amok is a medium rectangular shape that measures 10.5x5.1 inches when packed, and 72x20.5x3 inches when inflated. It's insulated with synthetic insulation and is covered with a 20D ripstop fabric that's thin enough to keep the weight down but also durable enough for the trail.

ENSOLITE SLEEPING PADDLE

Ensolite, another ultralight pad by Exped, offers great insulation and comfort. The pad's Texpedloft synthetic insulation is made of 60 g/m2 of foam that's welded to the air chambers so it doesn't shift around in the mat. It's extremely comfortable to sleep on, and also surprisingly quiet.

ULIGHT SLEEPING MATS

Exped Synmat UL, another ultralight pad with incredible comfort and warmth is only a few grams heavier than the competition. Synmat is made with synthetic insulation designed to mimic down's thermal properties, but it's lighter and doesn't lose loft as quickly. It is also incredibly quiet and has a soft front material, making it an excellent choice for those looking to save weight.

STATIC V LUXE SLEEPING PAD

The Static V Luxe is another classic from Klymit that took the camping world by storm over a decade ago and it still remains one of their most popular products to this day. The Static Luxe features deep chambers to either side of the mat and a system in a V shape running through the middle. It feels more like a mattress than a mat for those who sleep sideways.

ETHER LIGHT XT EXTREME INSULATED AIR SLEEPING MATS

Ether Light XT Extreme insulated mats are excellent in cold temperatures. It's insulated with Thermolite insulation that lofts inside the pad to give it a 6.2 R-value (the women's specific versions have additional Thermolite insulation for a 6.3).

This airmat is ideal for cold camping or winter. It's much warmer than the majority of air mats available. This air mat is a bit thicker, but it is still very light and easy for you to pump up with the Schnozzel included. The pump bag makes it easy to inflate by using your hands or arms instead of your lungs, and when not in use can be used as a compression sack for your sleeping bag or a waterproof stuff sack to store your clothes.

Alps Z MASTER FOAM SLEEPING Mats

The Alps Master Z has a 3 inch thick mat and a reflective platinum coating that helps reflect body heat, which in turn reduces convective heat loss. The mat measures 3 inches thick, and is coated with a platinum reflective coating to reflect heat from the body. This reduces heat loss through convection. It's covered in a 30/40d polyester fabric for a soft, durable feel. It's also very easy to inflate with the included Schnozzel pump bag and once rolled up is a relatively compact size that will fit into most pack bags.
